At a Glance

1. After the overwhelming floods of 1954 and 1955, the East Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (EPWAPDA) was formed in 1959 for the purpose of water management and development by recommendation of the Crug Mission.

 

2. After the independence, Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) emerged as a fully autonomous body with the same mandate in the EPWAPDA  water section of the President's Order No 59 in 1972.

 

3. In line with the revision and reconstruction of the National Water Policy - 1999 and the National Water Management Plan - 2004, the BWDB Act, 2000 was formulated. Under this Act, the Board's top policy-making and management is being conducted under the 13-member Water Council under the chairmanship of Honorable Honorable Minister, Water Resources Ministry.
